Full-Time Senior Network Engineer
Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for design, implementation and escalation support of local and wide area networks for the North America region. IT operates a multi-building, multi-campus network with sites throughout North America.
- Provides leadership to the network operations team who provides the day-to-day support of the network and is the final authority for support incidents.
- Responsible for network problem management and may need to assign tasks and duties to network operations team as needed.
- Must be hands-on, nuts & bolts, and able to work alongside and teach junior counterparts.
Essential Qualifications:
- Customer service focused individual
- Must be able to demonstrate high levels of professionalism and teamwork
- 6+ years supporting Cisco switched networks
- 3+ years designing multi-campus networks
- 3+ years supporting MPLS networks
- 3+ years supporting VoIP networks
- Very strong understanding of 802.1Q VLAN, trunking, spanning tree
- Very strong Layer 3 expertise
- Strong understanding of Carrier networks
- Experience with Ethernet based storage networks with CIFS, NFS and iSCSI traffic
- Experience implementing network monitoring technologies such as Ethereal, Wireshark, syslog, snmp, snmp traps
- Experience designing and expanding highly-available network core infrastructure
- Affinity for pro-actively identifying and resolving problems
- Must be available to participate in after-hours on-call rotation
- Ability to travel and work in field environment
Desirable:
- Experience in a 24/7 operations environment
- Experience managing structured cabling projects
- Experience working with Satcom technologies
- Able to troubleshoot problems at storage level
- Education and Experience
- Bachelor Degree in Information Technology or related field preferred or comparable combination of training/education/experience
- A minimum of 5 to 6 years related infrastructure/network experience
- Cisco certificates such as CCIE (Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert) or relevant certifications preferred.
